June Elizabeth Millington, born April 14, 1948 in Manila, Philippines, was a
Filipina-American guitarist. At age eight, she began playing piano and later
took up ukulele. In 1965, Millington formed her first band, The Svelts, with her
sister Jean on bass, Kathy Terry on drums, and Cathy Carter on guitar. The
all-female rock band performed at various venues, building a following despite
initial resistance. In late 1969, Millington co-founded the influential
all-female rock band Fanny, serving as lead guitarist until their disbandment in
