José Antonio Méndez

José Antonio Méndez García, born on 21 June 1927 in Havana, Cuba, was a Cuban composer, guitarist, and singer. Early lessons with Sindo Garay and Manuel Corona shaped his trova style. By 1946, he had composed "Por mi ceguedad" and "Novia mía" and founded Loquibambia Swing, featuring Omara Portuondo and pianist Frank Emilio Flynn. He toured Mexico in 1949 and later recorded with Flynn’s jazz combo and Rafael Somavilla's ensemble, including an album that featured his compositions "Cemento" and "Tu dulce mirar". He died on 10 June 1989 in Havana in a traffic accident.
