Johnny Woods
Johnny Woods, born on November 1, 1917, in Looxahoma, Mississippi, was an
American Delta blues singer and harmonica player. His music career began to gain
traction in the 1960s when he partnered with guitarist and singer Mississippi
Fred McDowell. Together, they recorded for George Mitchell and Chris
Strachwitz's Arhoolie Records, including King of the Country Blues Vol. 2 and
Blues of Johnny Woods. In 1972, Woods released his solo single "Mississippi
Harmonica" under Oblivion Records. After McDowell's death in July 1973, Woods
