John McNeil
John McNeil was born in 1948 in Yreka, Northern California. He began his
professional music career after graduating from high school in 1966. In the
mid-1970s, he moved to New York City and played with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis
Orchestra. By the late 1970s, McNeil had joined the Horace Silver Quintet and
started recording for SteepleChase Records, releasing albums such as Embarkation
in 1978. His notable collaborations included working with Dave Liebman and
Richard Beirach on the album Faun, and Tom Harrell on Look to the Sky. In the
