João Selva, born Jonathan Da Silva in Ipanema and son of a pastor, grew up
surrounded by ex-prisoners and converted artists. Guided by Wanda Sá and his
father’s eclectic music collection, he played guitar before age ten. At 18, he
traveled worldwide entertaining disadvantaged children and studying traditional
Brazilian arts like Capoeira Angola, Maracatu, and Samba de Roda. Settling in
Lyon, France, he formed the trio Forró de Rebeca in 2008, touring nationally.
Meeting Bruno Hovart (Patchworks) led to their first album, Natureza (2017).
