James Russell Lauderdale, known as Jim Lauderdale, was born on April 11, 1957,
in Troutman, North Carolina. He is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist
influenced by bluegrass music and artists like Ralph Stanley. After studying
theater at the North Carolina School of the Arts, Lauderdale moved to Nashville
in 1979 to pursue a recording deal. His solo debut album Planet of Love was
released in 1991. Lauderdale gained significant recognition for his
