Jesús Vásquez
Jesús Vásquez, born María de Jesús Vásquez Vásquez in Lima, Peru, on December
20, 1920, was a Peruvian singer known by the honorific title “La Reina y Señora
de la Canción Criolla” who lived until 2010. She began her performing career in
the late 1930s, making screen appearances in the 1938 Amauta Films productions
Gallo de mi galpón, El guapo del pueblo, and Palomillas del Rímac. Her recording
breakthrough came with her signature interpretation of Felipe Pinglo Alva's
