French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet was born on September 7, 1961 in Lyon,
France. Born to non-professional musical parents, he took his first piano
lessons at the age of five and made his first public performance at just seven
years old. He attended the Paris Conservatory, winning a gold medal at the age
of 12. At 15, he was the winner of the Premier Prix du Conservatoire, moving on
to win the Young Artists Auditions in New York City at the age of 18. He
