Melina Mae Cortez Duterte, known professionally as Jay Som, was born on March
25, 1994, in Walnut Creek, California. She is an American singer, guitarist,
keyboard player, and bass player who began playing instruments at a young age
and started writing music by 12. In November 2015, Duterte published nine demos
on Bandcamp titled Untitled, which gained online attention and were later
reissued as Turn Into in 2016. Her sophomore album, Everybody Works, was
