James Anthony O'Donnell was born on August 15, 1961, in Scotland. He studied
organ and harpsichord at the Royal College of Music and began his career as
Assistant Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral in 1982, becoming Master of
Music in 1988. O'Donnell led the cathedral choir to international acclaim,
including a 1998 recording that won both the Record of the Year award from
Gramophone and a Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award. In 2000, he was
