Jackie Washington
Jackie Washington, born November 12, 1919, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, was a
Canadian blues musician who began performing with his brother Ormsby at age
five. He broke into the public eye in 1948 as Canada’s first black disc jockey
on CHML, hosting his own show until 1950. Washington’s recording career launched
with Blues and Sentimental (1976), followed by Where Old Friends Meet (1991) and
Midnight Choo Choo (1998) on Borealis Records. He appeared on recordings by Duke
Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Joni Mitchell, and Gordon Lightfoot and performed at
many folk and blues festivals...
