Yvonne Ann Burgess, known by the stage name Jackie Trent, was born on 6 September 1940 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, England. She started her career at a young age, making her first stage appearance at eight. By eleven, she had assumed the stage name Jackie Trent. Her first single, "Pick Up the Pieces", was released in 1962 via the Oriole label. In 1965, she signed with Pye Records and scored a breakthrough hit with "Where Are You Now", co-written with Tony Hatch.
