Howard Tate, on August 13, 1939 in Elberton, Georgia, is an American soul singer
and songwriter. In his teens, he joined a gospel music group that included
Garnet Mimms, recording rhythm and blues songs for Mercury Records and Cameo
Records in the early 1960s. Tate's breakthrough came when he collaborated with
producer Jerry Ragovoy, resulting in a series of soul blues recordings from 1966
to 1968. Notable singles from this period include "Ain't Nobody Home", "Look at
Granny Run Run", and "Stop", all of which charted in the Top 20 of the Billboard
