Horacio "El Negro" Hernández was born on April 24, 1963, in Havana, Cuba, and is
a Cuban drummer and percussionist. He first gained international notice as the
drummer for pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba’s Proyecto. In 2001, he earned his first
Grammy as part of the Latin Jazz album Live at the Blue Note with Michel Camilo
and Charles Flores. In 2003, he released Onto the Street, followed by Italuba
(2004) and If (2005) with Fahir Atakoglu. He continued to collaborate with
artists such as Eddie Palmieri, Roy Hargrove, Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos,
