Homer & Jethro
Homer & Jethro were the stage names of Henry D. "Homer" Haynes, born July 27
1920, and Kenneth C. "Jethro" Burns, born March 10 1920, a country duo from
Knoxville, Tennessee. The pair met in 1936 during a WNOX‑AM audition at age
sixteen, then known by the nicknames Junior and Dude, before program director
Lowell Blanchard forgot their nicknames during a broadcast and rechristened them
Homer and Jethro on the spot. Their first major visibility came in 1939 as
regulars on the Renfro Valley Barn Dance radio program, and after returning from
separate World War II Army service in 1945...
