Hawthorne String Quartet, an American string quartet based in Boston, was
founded in 1986. Named after Nathaniel Hawthorne, the ensemble includes members
from the Boston Symphony Orchestra: Mark Ludwig on viola, Ronan Lefkowitz and
Si-Jing Huang on violin, and Sato Knudsen on cello. The quartet specializes in
compositions by artists interned at the Terezín concentration camp during World
War II. The Hawthorne String Quartet released their album Pavel Haas and Hans
