Leader of rock and Britpop band Super Furry Animals, Welshman Gruff Rhys (born Haverfordwest, July 18, 1970), broke free to record his first solo album Yr Atal Genhedlaeth (2005), sung entirely in Welsh, and in 2006 founded electro-pop duo Neon Neon with Boom Bip. On subsequent solo albums released between returns to his band, Gruff Rhys's alternative rock is tinged with folk, neo-psychedelia and electronic touches.
