Graham Keith Gouldman was born on 10 May 1946 in Broughton, Salford, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. He began playing guitar at eleven and soon joined local Manchester bands, eventually signing a contract with His Master’s Voice in 1964 for a single of "Look at Me".Gouldman’s breakthrough came as a freelance songwriter in the mid‑1960s, penning UK chart hits such as "For Your Love" for the Yardbirds, "Bus Stop" for the Hollies and "No Milk Today" for Herman’s Hermits.
