George Dale "The Fox" Williams, also known as George Williams, born on November
5, 1917, in New Orleans, was an American arranger, pianist, and composer active
during the Swing era. He grew up in Oakland, California, and initially played
baseball professionally before transitioning to music. Williams' breakthrough
came in 1939 when he began joining Bob Astor's band and later arranging for
Jimmie Lunceford. He worked with Lionel Hampton's band and Sonny Dunham's big
band, moving to the East Coast to arrange for Glenn Miller until the band
