George Haslam
George Haslam was born on February 22, 1939 in Preston, Lancashire, England, and
is an avant‑garde jazz saxophonist. He entered the London free‑improvisation
scene in the late 1960s, but did not record until the 1980s, releasing Live in
Hungary in 1984 with the Siger Band. In 1989, he founded Slam Records, releasing
Level Two (1993) and the Argentine Adventures series (1994–1999). He co‑founded
the British Saxophone Quartet in 1992 and the ensemble Meltdown in 1997. His
work earned him a top 20 ranking among all‑time world baritone saxophonists in
Japan’s Encyclopaedia of Jazz.
