Gérard Korsten, known as Gé Korsten, was born on December 6, 1927, in Rotterdam,
Netherlands, and was a South African tenor singer and actor. He emigrated to
South Africa at age nine and began singing in choirs at 20. Korsten received
formal training from Adelheid Armhold at the South African College of Music in
1952 and debuted as Canio in Pagliacci in 1956. He became a founding member of
Die Pretoriase Operagroep and performed over 3,000 times across 23 roles. His
