Franz Rupp was a German-American pianist and accompanist born in 1901. Rupp
studied at the Akademie der Tonkunst in Munich between 1916 and 1922. In 1935,
the artist accompanied violinist Fritz Kreisler on a tour and recorded the first
integral set of Beethoven's violin sonatas. Rupp moved to New York in 1938 and
served as the principal accompanist for contralto Marian Anderson for 25 years.
Their recordings include the albums Marian Anderson Sings Beloved Schubert Songs
(1950) and He's Got the Whole World in His Hands and 18 Other Spirituals (1962).
