Franz Xaver Gruber, also known as Franz Gruber, was born on November 25, 1787,
in Hochburg-Ach, Austria, was a primary school teacher, church organist, and
composer. He served as an organist and composer, initially gaining recognition
for his musical talents through his work at the parish church of Arnsdorf. In
1818, Gruber composed "Stille Nacht", a Christmas carol that would become one of
the most famous holiday songs worldwide. The song was first performed on
Christmas Eve in Oberndorf bei Salzburg and later gained international acclaim.
