Flotsam and Jetsam
Flotsam and Jetsam is an American thrash metal band that was founded in 1981 in
Phoenix, Arizona. The original lineup included singer Eric “A.K.” Knutson,
guitarist Michael Gilbert, and drummer Kelly David-Smith. The band initially
performed under various names, such as Paradox and Dredlox, before finally
renaming itself Flotsam and Jetsam in 1984. The name comes from a chapter in
J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Lord of the Rings. Their debut album Doomsday for the
Deceiver (1986) is considered a classic of thrash metal and was the first album
