Evie Tamala
Born Cucu Suryaningsih on June 23, 1969, in Tasikmalaya, West Java, the
Indonesian singer-songwriter known as Evie Tamala has been a popular voice on
the country's dangdut scene since beginning her career in the late '80s. The
oldest child of six siblings, she cut her teeth as a stage singer in Malay
orchestra group Sinar Remaja and after a slow start, found fame with her third
album Dokter Cinta ("Doctor of Love") in 1989, which propelled her to the
