Eric Wainaina
Eric Wainaina, born August 28, 1973, in Nairobi, Kenya, is a Kenyan singer and
songwriter whose early piano lessons at age 4 and active participation in school
choirs set the stage for a career rooted in Kenyan Benga rhythms and
contemporary pop. After performing with the gospel a cappella group Five Alive,
which gained popularity on Kenyan radio in 1995, he pursued formal training at
Berklee College of Music, graduating with honors in songwriting and recording
