Elena Burke
Romana Elena Burgues González, known professionally as Elena Burke, and born on
February 28, 1928, in Havana, Cuba, was a singer. She began her career working
in radio at the end of the 1940s with the program Corte Suprema del Arte, where
she signed her first contract with maestro Orlando de La Rosa. In the early
stages of her career, Elena Burke was part of various ensembles including Las
Mulatas de Fuego and the trio Las Cancioneras. Burke's breakthrough came as a
