Elaine Paige
British singer and actress Elaine Paige rose to fame through her roles in
musicals. Born Elaine Jill Bickerstaff in Barnet, Hertfordshire, on March 5,
1948, she sang in a choir and took drama classes at the Aida Foster Theatre
School in London after developing an interest in musical theater as a teenager.
After being rejected at an audition, she tried again under a different
name—Elaine Paige—which she adopted for her first role in The Roar of the
Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd by Leslie Briscusse and Anthony Newley in
