Peter Wilson, known professionally as Duke Special, was born on 4 January 1971
in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. He began playing piano at a young age, influenced
by family musicians, and later moved to Belfast where he developed a distinctive
piano‑based songwriting style. In 2002 he adopted the stage name Duke Special
and released the EP Lucky Me on Medieval Haircut Records, followed by My Villain
Heart in 2004; the two were compiled into the album Adventures in Gramophone
