The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company was a British light opera company, founded by
Richard D'Oyly Carte. It achieved its breakthrough with Trial by Jury, a
collaboration between W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan that premiered at
London's Royalty Theatre in March 1875. The company produced several full-length
operas, including The Sorcerer (1877) and H.M.S. Pinafore (1878), and staged
Gilbert and Sullivan's Savoy operas regularly in repertory in London and on tour
