Dorothy Collins, born Marjorie Chandler on November 18, 1926, in Windsor,
Ontario, Canada, was a singer who began her career at a young age. She adopted
her stage name in her mid-teens and started singing on radio stations in Windsor
and Detroit. In 1940, at age 14, she met bandleader/composer Raymond Scott in
Chicago, who became her mentor. In 1942, Collins was a featured vocalist with
Scott's orchestra, performing on radio and tour. She contributed vocals to the
Raymond Scott Quintette in the late 1940s and joined Your Hit Parade on NBC
