Donald Alton Fagerquist was an American West Coast jazz trumpeter born on
February 6, 1927, in Worcester, Massachusetts. A featured soloist with major
ensembles, Fagerquist performed with the bands of Mal Hallett (1943), Gene Krupa
(1944–1950), Artie Shaw (1949–1950), and Woody Herman (1951–1952). Between 1953
and 1959, he was a member of the Dave Pell Octet. In 1956, Fagerquist became a
staff musician for Paramount Films while continuing to record with artists such
