DeVotchKa, formed in Denver in 1997, comprises Nick Urata (vocals, guitar,
trumpet, theremin, bouzouki, piano), Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion, trombone,
piano), Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone, upright bass, backing vocals), and Shawn
King (drums, percussion, trumpet). The quartet first attracted attention playing
in burlesque and punk venues before releasing their debut album SuperMelodrama
