Maydie Galvin Myles, known professionally as Debbie Taylor, was born on June 23,
1947, in Norfolk, Virginia. She began her musical journey singing gospel in her
father's church and later toured nationally with a jazz trio led by her high
school music teacher, Reginald Walker. In the late 1960s, she adopted the stage
name Debbie Taylor to perform R&B music in local clubs. Her first recordings
