DD Smash was a New Zealand pop/rock band formed in 1980 by Dave Dobbyn after the
breakup of Th' Dudes. The group briefly performed under the name Dave Dobbyn’s
Divers before drummer Peter Warren suggested the name DD Smash. By late 1981,
they signed a recording deal and released their debut album Cool Bananas in
1982, which debuted at Number 1 in New Zealand and earned triple gold
certification. Their subsequent albums included Live: Deep in the Heart of Taxes
