Daniel Moses Barker, also known as Danny Barker, born January 13, 1909, in New
Orleans, was an American jazz musician, vocalist, and author. He started playing
banjo after beginning his musical journey on clarinet and drums. In 1930, he
moved to New York City and transitioned to guitar, collaborating with acts such
as Fess Williams, Billy Fowler, and the White Brothers. Throughout the 1930s and
1940s, he played with notable figures including Cab Calloway, Lucky Millinder,
