Cliffie Stone
Clifford Gilpin Snyder, born 1 March 1917 in Stockton, known as “Cliffie Stone”,
was an American country singer, musician, and producer. He established a
reputation in the 1930s playing bass in big bands and performing comedy on Los
Angeles radio. Snyder gained recognition as the host of the radio and television
program Hometown Jamboree (originally Dinner Bell Roundup), which showcased
artists including Johnny Cash and Merle Travis. In 1946, he became an A&R
manager at Capitol Records, where he signed Tennessee Ernie Ford and Hank
