Chris Knight, born June 24, 1960, in St. Louis, Missouri, is an American country and folk rock singer-songwriter who grew up in Slaughters, Kentucky. He taught himself to play guitar at age 15, learning songs by John Prine. After graduating with a degree in agriculture from Western Kentucky University, Knight worked as a mine reclamation inspector. In 1986, inspired by hearing Steve Earle on the radio, he began writing songs and moved to Nashville in 1992.
