Black Obelisk was a Soviet and Russian metal band founded by bassist, vocalist,
and songwriter Anatoly Krupnov in Moscow in 1986. The group quickly gained
attention through energetic performances and a distinctive blend of heavy metal,
theatrical staging, and dark imagery. Its early releases included the live
albums Apocalypse (1986) and Flowers of Evil (1987), the latter drawing on poems
by Charles Baudelaire. After disbanding in 1988, Black Obelisk was revived in
1990 and released The Wall in 1991, followed by several albums during the 1990s.
