Charles Sawtelle was an American bluegrass musician, born on September 20, 1946,
in Austin, Texas. He grew up in Colorado and began his musical career as a
member of the bands The Rambling Drifters and Monroe Doctrine before joining Hot
Rize. In Hot Rize, Sawtelle initially played bass but later took over guitar
duties after replacing Mike Scap. During his time with Hot Rize, he contributed
to several albums, including Hot Rize (1979), Radio Boogie (1981), and
