Chanson
Chanson was an American disco studio group active in the late 1970s, led by
bassist James Jamerson Jr. and guitarist David Williams. James Jamerson Jr. had
established himself as a sought‑after session bassist in the early 1970s, while
David Williams had already recorded guitar for prominent acts such as The
Jacksons and Madonna. The duo assembled Chanson, taking its name from the French
word for song, and released the single "Don't Hold Back" in 1978 under the
Ariola label, which reached number 21 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number
33 in the UK Singles Chart in 1979.
