Chabuca Granda
María Isabel Granda Larco, known professionally as Chabuca Granda, was born on
September 3, 1920, in Cotabambas, Peru, and was a Peruvian singer and
songwriter. She began her musical journey by singing boleros and rancheras at
local events with various groups, including the duo Luz y Sombra and a trio with
Martha and Charo Gibson. Her breakthrough came in 1948 when she composed "Lima
de veras", winning first prize in a contest organized by the Municipalidad del
