Carol Kaye, born March 24, 1935 in Washington, began playing guitar as a teen
and became active on the Los Angeles jazz scene in the 1950s. Her studio career
began in 1957 after playing on Sam Cooke’s “Summertime.” Initially a guitarist,
she switched to bass in 1963 during a Capitol Records session and quickly became
one of L.A.'s most in-demand session players. She played on countless 1960s and
1970s hits, working with Phil Spector, Brian Wilson (Pet Sounds), Simon &
