Brenda Lee Eager
Brenda Lee Eager is an American soul singer and songwriter. Eager began singing
in church and professionally debuted at the Kings Club at age 17. In 1971, Eager
became the lead singer for Jerry Butler's backup group Peaches, recording the
hit “Ain't Understanding Mellow” (1971), which reached number 3 on the Billboard
R&B chart and number 21 on the Hot 100. A duet version of “(They Long to Be)
Close to You” (1972) reached number 6 on the R&B chart. Eager worked as a backup
singer for artists including Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Diana Ross. Solo
