Birthe Kjær, born Birthe Kjær on September 1, 1948, in Aarhus, Denmark, is a
Danish singer who began her career in the late 1960s. She released her debut
album Jeg skal aldrig til bal uden trusser in 1973. Throughout the 1980s, Kjær
made several attempts to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest,
finishing second in 1980, 1986, and 1987 before winning in 1989 with "Vi maler
byen rød" ("We paint the town red"). Her performance earned a third-place finish
