Luis María Frómeta Pereira, known as Billo Frómeta, was born on 15 November 1915
in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and became a musician, composer and
orchestra director who founded the Billo’s Caracas Boys orchestra in 1940,
blending Caribbean rhythms such as cumbia, guaracha and merengue with Latin
American influences. Before that he led the Santo Domingo Jazz Band in the
1930s. After settling in Venezuela, the ensemble Billo’s Caracas Boys became a
