Beverly Kutner, known professionally as Beverley Martyn, was born on 24 March 1947 in Coventry, United Kingdom, and became a folk singer‑songwriter‑guitarist. While still a student, she moved to London at 15, joined the Levee Breakers, and recorded the single "Babe I'm Leaving You" in 1965. Her breakthrough came in 1966 with "Happy New Year" on Deram Records, featuring Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Nicky Hopkins, and Andy White, and a subsequent single "Picking Up the Sunshine" released the following year.
