Bernard Roger Tapie was born on January 26, 1943 in Paris, France. He studied
the violin for a few years and decided to become a singer on his return from
military service. At the height of the yéyé wave, he changed his name to Bernard
Tapy (the Y for yéyé), pronounced in English. Shortly before the summer of 1966,
he released his first album on RCA, with four songs he had written himself: "Je
ne crois plus les filles", "Avait-il tort?", "Le Retour", "Vite un verre". Then
he adapted American Barry Sadler's "Ballad of the Green Berets" into "Passeport
