Benny Martin
Benjamin Edward Martin, also known as Benny Martin, born on May 8, 1928, in
Sparta, Tennessee, and was an American bluegrass fiddler known for inventing the
eight-string fiddle. He learned to play the fiddle from Carl Alverson Sr., and
by his early teens, he moved to Nashville to pursue a career as a country
musician. In 1948, Martin joined Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys at radio station
WLAC in Nashville. Throughout his career, he collaborated with notable artists
such as Flatt and Scruggs, Jimmy Martin, Johnnie and Jack, and the Stanley
