Jean Bélony Murat, known professionally as BélO, is a Haitian singer-songwriter and guitarist born in Croix-des-Bouquets, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on October 29, 1979. Growing up in Pétion-Ville, he began singing at a young age, performing covers of Buju Banton at eleven years of age. In 1994, he and his friend formed the group Mega Boys. Following his introduction to musicians Fabrice Rouzier and Jean Sannon Lamour in 1997, he learned to play the bass and guitar.
